Coffin Silver Wedding Celebrates 25 Years in Everett

McNaught Very Ill Civil War Vet at Community Hospital
John McNaught, Winthrop’s Civil War veteran, lies seriously ill after an operation performed last Wednesday evening by Dr. Green of Boston City hospital. He had felt unwell for two weeks, worsened after a fall on ice about 11 days ago, and was moved to hospital by Patrolmen Douglas and Turner.

Medal of Honor Recipient H W Kuchmeister Dies
Winthrop mourns Herman W. Kuchmeister a Medal of Honor sailor noted for service at Cienfuegos Cuba May 13 1898. He collapsed at Thornton Station on the way to Boston after a night shift at Yarmouth Dock leaving a wife Florence Cummings and two daughters Florence Louise and Eleanor. He served in the Marine Corps and was honored at Charlestown Navy Yard later attaining Quartermaster General of the Army and Navy Legion of Valor status. Funeral services set for Legion Hall with local police aiding arrival on scene.

Patrolman Walter George found the rear window broken and a locker pried open at Howe's drug store early Sunday. Thieves targeted medicinal liquors kept in a heavy locked locker. About $6 in change, cigars and small items were taken. suspects have been questioned by Lieut. Douglas.
