Christmas Day in Winthrop brought cold weather and snowfall that filled homes with joy. Observers noted a busy Saturday as families carried bundles, sleds, and trees, with youngsters waking to a winter wonderland and a merry scene throughout the town.
Bells called worshippers to services as evergreen decorations and musical programs lit up churches. Children received trees and presents while crowds joined the Christmas trees and show at the Winthrop and Dream Theatres, drawing nearly 2000 attendees per publicity in The Review.
Next Monday afternoon from 3 to 5 a Christmas tree and entertainment will be held in Social Hall rear of the post office under the auspices of the Spanish War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary. Santa Claus will distribute gifts hanging on the tree with each child’s name. Committee in charge includes Mrs. William H. Ricker president and Mrs. R. R. Flynn Mrs. George A. Jenkins Maude R. Donovan P. P. and Commander Thomas J. Donovan. The tree is a gift from Mr. Charles L. Hatch of the Winthrop theatre. Three unfortunates were guests of our local Police Dept on Christmas.
The selectmen will hold the final 1921 meeting Saturday evening. All bills for the year should be presented at this meeting. The session will open early.
