Winthrop High Loses Two Faculty to Navy Service

Principal Orrin C. Davis and Assistant Principal Ralph L. Duplin of Winthrop High School will depart for naval service. Davis, after 19 years at Winthrop, is to report January 2 to Ohio State University for a training indoctrination. Duplin awaits forthcoming orders as both men are sworn in as Navy Reserve Air Corps lieutenants.

Leslie L Dunham Named Acting W H S Principal

At a School Committee meeting Leslie L Dunham a mathematics instructor was appointed Acting Principal of the Senior High School until Principal Davis returns after the war. He has been a member of the faculty since January 1926.

Rationing Rules Extend Fuel Oil Coupon Validity

Under orders from OPA headquarters the first heating period fuel oil coupon No. 1 validity extends to December 23. The extension does not alter entitlements. callers must obtain coupons from the Rationing Board to receive their quota, and unused coupons cannot be exchanged or used after the new date. Ration Book 2 introduces a Point System for related commodities, changing how scarce items are purchased and tracked per month.

Miss Kershaw Sworn Into WAVES Navy Reserve

Kershaw, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Kershaw of 53 Crest Ave Winthrop, was sworn into the WAVES last Saturday. She will begin basic training in Oklahoma around mid January. Her brother James serves in the Army at New Caledonia, among the first US troops to land there last March.

Eastern Mass Railway Buses To Stop In East Boston

The Eastern Mass Railway will halt on McClellan Highway at Boardman Street in East Boston starting December 15 to serve Winthrop workers and others commuting toward Lynn and the North Shore. The move aims to aid defense workers at River Works and West Lynn plants of General Electric.

Chief William Pumphret announced under a gubernatorial emergency order that all vehicles parked on town streets after sunset must have parking lights on. Vehicles found without lights will be tagged and face probable court action.
