Doris M. Hamilton of Lynn became the first woman to correctly forecast the Thanksgiving Day classic score between Winthrop and Revere in the Review’s third annual contest. Only two of 26 entrants predicted the game's outcome, with two out-of-towners offering scores in the pregame guesses.

410 Babies Born At Local Hospital

Massachusetts Hospital Association reports 132 mothers and 4221 babies saved in Massachusetts last year due to advances in maternal and infant care. In Winthrop the Commun ity Hospital recorded 410 births, reflecting hospitals’ large role in the state’s progress. Governor Saltonstall chairs the information committee with Dr. Washburn.

Episcopal Church 50th Anniversary Celebrated at St Johns

On the second Sunday in Advent marking 50 years since the first service in 1889 at St Johns Episcopal Church, parish historian Sidvin F. Tucker will give an historic address and show a Winthrop history exhibit. Board member David Belcher will sing again with the choir repetition of the original hymns.

When Is A Meeting Not Town Meeting

A special town meeting planned for Monday night devolved into a comedy of errors as quorum issues stalled the start. The Board of Selectmen arrived late at 8 15, and by 8 30 there were still not enough members to meet a quorum. Despite this, the moderator and officials claimed no quorum was necessary to transfer funds, and the meeting adjourned.
