Revere Street Church Dedication Held In Winthrop

First Church of Christ Scientist at 165 Winthrop Street Winthrop held a Sunday dedication service on November 30 conducted by Archer L Sibley and Mrs Adna Saylor. The church was filled to capacity and the mortgage note was discharged the prior week confirming the debt free status. The service included Scriptural readings and correlative passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

Will Try To Form Gym Class Monday

On Monday evening December 8 at 7 45 the men's gym class will meet at the Junior High School gym for instruction and games under Robert Perry athletic director. At least thirty men must join to organize the class with no charge unless formed. If two evenings a week are chosen the charge is six dollars per man for six weeks. if one evening a week is chosen the charge is three dollars for six weeks.

Commence Work on East Boston Tunnel

It is understood that the first work on the proposed Boston East Boston vehicular tunnel was started this week. Workmen began tearing down five small houses on Porter Street near Central Square, which will be the tunnel's East Boston entrance and exit.

Not warranted breakwater plan at Winthrop Highlands

State Department of Public Works reports on a proposed breakwater and marine improvements at Broad Sound near Winthrop Highlands. It finds limited protection from erosion, notes the $225 250 estimated cost is not warranted, and cites other yacht basins in the area. The site lies north of Winthrop Highlands, near Cherry Island Bar, exposed to north and southeast gales.

Many Ways To Aid The Unemployed In Town

Town residents can help the unemployed, especially the white collar group, by offering work across tasks. Suggestions include car washing for those out of work, property care such as window washing and painting, and hiring unemployed men and women as holiday staff, with street projects beginning soon for laborers.

City Street Boss Schedules Jobs After Funding Vote

T J Mahaney of the Street Department promptly put 35 men to work after a $1300 appropriation passed. Work began on Ingleside avenue with pipes and drains and extended to Wilshire street Harbor View avenue and Pauline street. He pledged to employ as many men as possible while funds last. Water Department also started work on an adjacent site.

Wording Of Act Delays Revere Street Widening Plan

A Tuesday town meeting in Winthrop delaying action on Revere street widening due to a legal challenge over a U S Congress act. Washington officials argue the 50 foot width exceeds authorized limits causing a temporary hold while the case is reviewed by military and legal authorities.
