Winthrop Yacht Club hosts the sixteenth annual three day interclub regatta for Winthrop and Cottage Park Yacht Clubs on September 4 5 and 6. Nine classes compete with open house, dancing, refreshments, and tickets available at the booth or nomial charge. Judges include Commodores Wisely Madden Hamilton Lee Bernstein and others. Regatta committee chaired by B E Whitcomb with members Rogers Paterson Floyd Siefert.

Winthrop High starts wartime football drills Thursday September 2 at 10 am with Head Coach Gordon Connor. Candidates receive equipment and insurance forms, potential medicals, and a path to nine games, possibly on foreign fields if Miller Field remains restricted. Veterans include Gingrich and Stevenson, with captains leading as preparations continue through November.

Plan to ease draft by reclassifying 4-F men for wartime needs
A Revere meeting of Winthrop Chelsea draft boards proposes a bill to lower physical standards for those rejected for alcoholism neurosis defective vision otitis and other Army surgeon general flagged defects. They claim admitting rejected men could supply up to a half million single soldiers by November 1 reducing calls for induction and freeing troops for overseas duty. Woman Fined $250 for Failing to Clean Up Property in Winthrop
Chief William A. Floyd and Jerry Wyman of the Winthrop Fire Department secured a $250 fine against Esther Slater of 437 Shirley Street for neglecting cleanup. The property houses about 100 people near valuable nearby properties and a school, with further inspections planned to curb fire hazards.

Chart Back in Boston Reclaims 1733 Maritime Record
Boston receives the 1733 chart of Massachusetts Bay returned from London where it lay in a bookstore during war. It was drawn by Capt. Cyprian Southack and recovered by Lieut. Edward R. Snow of the Army Air Corps while researching New England history in England. Snow saved the chart from mail loss and was wounded in Tunisia during an Axis air raid.
