Winthrop Announces 1924 Tax Rate at $26.50 Per Thousand

Town Assessors report a 1924 tax rate of 26.50 for every $1000 of valuation, up from 24.50 last year. Total 1924 valuations reach 21,458,750 with land buildings gas tanks and personal property, 4605 real estate polls, and 4605 polls in total.

Death of William E. Burke Jr. in Whitefield NH

William E. Burke Jr. died August 1 at Morrison Memorial Hospital Whitefield New Hampshire after a car accident on July 28 near Whitefield. Burke formerly worked at the Winthrop post office and as a railroad and postal worker. Funeral held at his parents home and burial in Holy Cross Cemetery Malden with railroad and post office representatives present.

Bullet hits homes in Point Shirley investigation

Last week a shot fired at Point Shirley pierced four windows in the Goss house on Triton Avenue and a window at Mrs. Vose on Bilows Avenue before striking the floor, prompting police to investigate.

Fort Banks and Winthrop Athletics Split Series At Fort Grounds

The Fort Banks and Winthrop Athletics played the second game of their series at Fort grounds last Sunday. A large crowd watched as Ramsey starred with three runs two base hits and four assists at short. Walter and Kane also shone with strong plays and a long hit. Several new players appeared.
