Officials receive plans and Patrats for widening Revere Street from Fort Banks land to improve a key town thoroughfare. The project aims to ease ordinary town use and serve the metropolitan Boston region, with details moved to government action this week.
Negotiations continue between the Board of Selectmen and the Postmaster General in Washington regarding a proposed post office to be opened at the Old Town Hall site. No definite decision has been made. officials hope Washington will act after the summer months following the Town Meeting vote of May 20.
The Elks Carnival starts tonight promising a historic gala event. A Grecian decor theme enhances the Midway with new booths and merchandise, much of it debuting in Winthrop. Friday features George Cawthorne’s orchestra and a concert program with surprises.

Eight year old film star Baby Claire McIntyre traveled from Hollywood to Boston to be at the bedside of her dying grandfather Theodore F. McIntyre of 50 Eutaw Street East Boston. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard McIntyre of Winthrop and is known to radio fans from her years on Boston and New York studios. Her early career included engagement by Tec-Art Studio and Meglin Kiddies. The attending physician Dr G L Gately noted the child’s visit as the family sought solace during the grandfather’s illness.
Mrs. Anteline Dexter, living with her daughter Mrs. Frank Whitman at 44 Prospect Avenue, celebrated her nintieth birthday with a reception and tea last Saturday. Friends from Beverly, Somerville, Winthrop, and others attended. One caller, Malcolm Whitman of Winthrop High lands, was a former pupil from seventy years ago.
East Boston Civic Association plans a march on City Hall with more than 200 residents to protest toll hikes on the East Boston ferry. The letter argues toll increases won’t cover maintenance costs and urges policy support for local business and community welfare.
