Man Killed Under Auto in Winthrop
Anders Larsson aged 36 residing at 25 Somerset Street was killed when a car fell from a wooden prop placed under its rear. Witnesses described him working beside the vehicle while the car unexpectedly dropped onto his collarbone and shoulder. Autopsy by Dr Parker confirmed death at the scene. Funeral held Monday at 2 p.m. Rev John L Ivey officiating with burial in Winthrop Cemetery. many railroad mates attended.

Fire destroys Verdi store in Winthrop and displaces families
At 2.44 Saturday morning Box 68 responded to the worst Winthrop blaze in memory. The A Verdi shop at Winthrop and Jefferson burned to a total loss causing $10,000 damage and forcing several families from their flats. Firefighters faced heavy smoke but contained the fire with help from a brick wall barrier. Special Officer John Kelley and Lieut. J H Douglas played key roles rescuing occupants and guiding residents to safety. Dr Horace J Soule opened his home to victims as City services and Mrs Mary Shine assisted in notifying the owner.
