Fire Drives Sixty People From 95 Quincy Avenue
A large Winthrop Highlands blaze forced sixty residents to flee from a 15 apartment building at 95 Quincy Avenue. Firefighters battled the flames for two hours as occupants jumped from second and third story windows to escape the fire believed started near a heater. Several residents were hospitalized including Elizabeth Moore and Lawrence Burna. others were treated for injuries after leaping to safety.

Local Officers Capture Burglars in East Boston
Patrolman LeRoy Coffin spotted a burglary at Stover's drug store on Shirley Street and, with off duty Patrolman George Wendell, cornered two men in the basement. Michael Modica, 21, of Haynes Street, and Ferullo Mottola, 20, of Webster Street East Boston, were charged with breaking and entering and possession of burglars tools and held on 1080. They were to appear in East Boston District Court on May 4.
