Award Contract To W. G. Baker Co For Chief's Car
At a Friday night meeting the Wal ter G. Baker Company won the bid for a new Lafayette two door sedan to serve as the Chief's car at $905.00, $105 above the lowest bid. Three firms submitted offers including two locals and a Boston firm with Clarence Collins as a member. Bids opened showed McMurray $1,022 for a 2 door Buick sedan, Baker $905 for a 2 door Lafayette sedan, and St. Garage Boston $799.35 for a 2 door Lafayette sedan.

Wins Legion Flag Education Contest
On Thursday April 15 Winthrop Post 146 American Legion held its first Flag Education Contest for eighth grade students at Junior High School. The event aimed to teach respect for the flag and proper display and salute, selecting eighth graders as the most receptive stage. The contest covered ten questions on the flag’s origin makeup and display under all conditions.

Funeral services for William G. Grant 76 longtime Winthrop Hardware manager and proprietor were held at the First Methodist Episcopal Church. Winthrop Scouts Build Overnight Cabin
The Winthrop Scout committee led by chairman Frank E. Whitman has secured funds and begun building an overnight cabin for local troops. Foundations are poured, labor is donated, and completion is anticipated in a few weeks with dedication to follow. Scout Commissioner John Flinn coordinates construction plans.

C Joseph Harvey Dies. Boston Globe Editor and Local Figure
C Joseph Harvey resident of 190 Pauline Street Winthrop and real estate editor of the Boston Globe died Tuesday night at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital after six weeks of illness. Born March 12 1891 in Waltham he began at the Globe as an office boy and later rose to district representative and editor. He married Grace Manning in 1913 and leaves his wife six children two sisters and a brother. He was active in Winthrop civic life with Elks Yacht Club and the Massachusetts Republican Club.

Lynn Council Becomes Bay Shore Council Inc
The Lynn Council of Boy Scouts of America changes its name to Boy Scouts of America Bay Shore Council Inc after approval by the council executive and the Secretary of the Commonwealth. The council, organized in 1919, serves Lynn and surrounding towns with 64 units including 50 troops and various sea, explorer, rover, and cub programs. It operates Powow Summer Camp in Amesbury and Nihan in Saugus with future additions planned at Newburyport Turnpike.
