At Washington request the town of Winthrop may sell the old town hall site to the government for two post offices. Chairman Tibbetts submitted two tentative prices totaling 16 966 dollars for the lot, awaiting post office authorities’ approval.
At a Board of Selectmen meeting Friday evening Michael L Grimes of 16 Ocean Avenue and Myron W Tewksbury of 19 Lincoln Street were named to the Tour Planning Board to fill vacancies from the resignations of Frank E Whitman and Louis A Chase.
Winthrop's Tercentenary Committee will fund two new steel flagpoles to replace decayed ones on the island in Metcalf Square. The poles, about 500 dollars, will stand on the Library lot in front of the Town Hall as a permanent memorial. The old pole was removed due to base decay.
Local merchants and business leaders met to consider an industrial exhibition in Winthrop this fall and to plan a membership drive. Two honorary memberships may be offered to the Board of Selectmen as part of efforts to boost involvement.

Plans for a new addition to Winthrop Post No 146 American Legion quarters are ready with architect work to finish this week. The project adds a rear hall with a second floor meeting room and social space, plus a basement for dinners or a recreation room. Bids likely requested next week to start construction.
Winthrop Tercentenary Parade Committee chairman Frank K Hatfield announces the next meeting will be in the Town Hall Hearing Room on Friday evening April 25.
A hearing before Col. S. A. Cheney, U. S. Commissioner, discussed amending the Chelsea Bridge opening rules as of May 12 1910. The parties agreed to seek an amicable agreement with A. J. Casassa, mayor of Revere, and proposed changing the closed period from 4 30 P M to 6 20 P M with exceptions for water craft of certain drafts. Continued on page.
After reviewing specifications from several manufacturers the Board of Selectmen chose the Sterling Truck for the Street Department at 4150 dollars, within the 4500 dollar appropriation from the annual Town Meeting. The Sterling is used by the Metropolitan District Commission on metropolitan highways for snow removal and other tasks and has proven satisfactory.
The Church of St John the Evengelists Palm Sunday service overflowed with visitors as Gounod De Profundis was sung by a chorus of forty with harp and violin under J Herbert Sheehan. Rev John T O’Brien fostered music in the parish amid weeks of rehearsal and high praise for the choir and director.
Mrs William G Harber Sr of 305 Winthrop Street sustained two broken ribs and partial fractures of two more after an automobile accident last week.
A successful supper and entertainment was held at the Winthrop Yacht Club on Thursday evening. Scene featured a tulip covered fence, a garden, a windmill, and Dutch figures with attendants in period dress creating a festive atmosphere.
Trustees urge more donations to the hospital deficiency fund and report total receipts at 2850 41 dollars. Workers have not yet reported contributions by Wednesday night, and the drive seeks to increase the tally at Jefferson street headquarters.

President G P Wells of Boston Revere Beach and Lynn railroad announced Friday afternoon the appointment of Powell as manager during a directors meeting. Powell, formerly the electrical supervisor, oversaw the line's conversion from steam to electric power and now resides on Pleasant Street Winthrop having moved from Philadelphia.
The Board of Selectmen approved the transfer of licenses for operating the Winthrop and Dream Theatres from Charles L. Hatch to Ralph Snider at its regular weekly meeting Monday evening.
The Republican League of Winthrop filed a campaign report under General Laws chapter 55. It lists 119 donors contributing from $1 to $100 totaling 846 dollars, with 282.25 dollars in outstanding liabilities as of April 1 1939. The league spent 1,111.61 dollars endorsing its candidates.
