Old Bill Biggins reports the Boy and Girl Scouts plan to raise money for a new home and urges locals to attend a meeting at the new High School in Winthrop on Wednesday evening April 11 to learn how to help. A debate about town affairs follows as residents discuss the Selectmen's Rooms and local politics.
Community invites citizens to join the Winthrop Boy Scouts Council after the death of Dean G Freeman prompts a reorganization. A meeting is set for April 11 at 8 PM in Osborn Hall High School with Regional Director R N Berry to recruit Scoutmasters, assistants, and a central meeting place, honoring Freeman's memory.
One hundred Winthrop Fire Department members attended a Murphy Club feast with sea clams and steamed clams. Toastmaster Fred J. Murphy introduced Deputy Chief Sennott of Boston Fire Department who praised firefighting progress and urged study for advancement. Senator Edward J. Cox delivered a standing ovation speech endorsing the two platoon system.
Last Friday deeds conveyed 68 Fremont St to Winthrop Community Hospital for use as a Nurses' Home, with plans to connect hospital and home, improve grounds, plant Lombardy poplars, and open Metcalf House as a maternity unit. Donations exceed $600, with further needs cited for furnishings, equipment, and grounds improvement. Little Joe Dalton was admitted to Peter Bent Brigham Hospital last Tuesday.
