Police recover a large boatyard loot from a house on Read and Marshall streets. Chief McNeill and officers arrest five youths about 15 years old who confess to motorboat part thefts over the past year and a half. They will face charges in court next week.
The annual meeting of the Winthrop Visiting Nurse Association will be held Tuesday April 11 at 2 30 in Osborn Hall High School for election of officers and reports by the secretary treasurer and senior nurse. A lecture on Common Everyday Phases of Nervousness will follow by Dr Martin W Peck of the Boston Psychopathic Hospital. Selections by Edwin D Record, pianist. The meeting is open to all interested.
The Review announces the reopening of Miss Catherine Haslam's Willows Tea Room for the season at 505 Shirley Street. Patrons will be welcomed with the same dainty food and attentive service.
The Winthrop churches across Catholic, Episcopal, Jewish and Methodist faiths rally to support a community hospital. Clergy praise lay efforts to canvass residents for local access to care, stressing near home treatment and shared community goodwill.
A Friday town meeting adjourned after acting on all articles, with reduced attendance. Highlights include Article 17 on schools, debates over a seven member committee, and approval of $6,500 for Main Street construction, $1,050 to widen Revere Street, and resurfacing projects on Pearl Avenue and Irwin Street. The vote on the Fire two platoon bill passed 70 to 61, while pension for Police and Fire was rejected. The next town meeting will discuss new by laws on April 7.
Mrs. Wm H Chase hosted the Deane Winthrop Chapter D A R at 89 Johnson Ave with Nellie F Griffin Regent presiding. Members heard a High School note about S A R medals for top American history graduate and a possible reciprocal award for a top female student. Anne O Hara's membership request was accepted. Reports from State Conference delegates covered national laws.
