GW Sturmer of the B and O in town for the veterans meeting at 7 p.m. in the American building hall. Visitors from Gratton Henwood Larkeburei Connellsville Pringle and Brownsville joined the group.
A meeting last evening at the Central School building on the East Side to organize two new scout troops failed as not enough boys attended. Organizer R A Jolimaton says locals mistake the Scouts for a military group and plans to explain the purpose in East Side schools next week to clear the misunderstanding and proceed with the drive.
Okey Villers of Downs, an employee of the Consumers' Supply Company, died en route to Fairmont hospital after an accident in which he was caught between a motor and a gear at the Downs mine. He was 21, son of Mr and Mrs Villers. He belonged to the ALE, F. and the American Legion Charles Mullen Post.
Edward Douglas White chief justice of the United States was buried in Oak Hill cemetery. Flags were lowered on public buildings and a funeral salute from Fort Myer batteries across the Potomac marked the ceremony. The simple service reflected the nation’s respect at his death in Washington on May 21.
