Reports say Austrian forces pushed to the eastern river bank but suffered heavy losses as Italian defenses held. Thousands killed or captured, munitions lost, and communications disrupted by floods and retreat. Officials warn of possible unrest within the Austro-Hungarian realm if the assault fails.
Tomorrow morning at 19 o’clock the men drafted to fill Mil its quota report to the local draft office for instructions. An assembling of captains and draftees will occur, with a contingent of seventy eight men from the county board meeting at Mannington to entrain at 12 25 pm.
Philipsburg Pa June 25 The county exemption board says Provost Marshal General work or fight order does not apply locally due to munition plant needs and farmer provisions, following chamber of commerce request.
The Associated Press reports a June 26 casualty list for Virginia Marines. Among 19 names, four are listed as in action, one died of wounds, and sixteen are severely wounded. Names include Privates Patterson Con Springs C Trate Brilliant, and Sergeant Henry C. plus Aloysius.

Three men injured in yesterday’s freight wreck C Warren Walter Barboo and Brooks Morris are at the Piedmont hospital recovering. County Coroner Frank A Lloyd has appointed a jury Homer Price Rube Frantz John Scott J P Kirby T L Burchival Theodore Workmen. The jury will wait for fuller statements once patients recover.
General Pershing reported a German counterattack at Torcy repulsed with heavy losses. Several American soldiers are missing after a raid in Lorraine amid ongoing fighting and troop movements in France.
Mrs Peut Simon 29 killed her four children by slashing throats with a razor and injuring herself at her Leptonia home near Salem. She cited despondency over domestic troubles and her gambling husband as motives. The victims are Mary 5 Veronica 7 Paul Jr 4 and Margaret 18 months. She was hospitalized in critical condition. The Fairmont Rotary Club planned a Thursday evening fundraiser at the Country Club featuring a baseball game between two Rotary teams after a noon lunch, with professional players guiding the event and a dinner to follow.
Two city street cars were damaged in a collision on the incline between Fourteenth Street and Watson Street near Monongahela Valley Bridge around 6 this morning. Conductor Ray Watson was the only injured person. FP E Gonding, returning from a pneumonia-related vacation, had started work after a three month layoff and was unaware of a schedule change. He encountered Carl Conaway operating another car as both crews attempted to avoid the crash but failed.

Chairman George W. Bowers announced the county draft board will entrain 108 men starting July 22 for Camp Meade Maryland. The board expects total enlistment not to exceed 2900, excluding some white Class 1 men. Bowers, who was in Pittsburg, received notice upon returning home.
