Convention Opens After Delay at Coliseum Chicago
At the Coliseum in Chicago on June 8 the convention opened almost half an hour late after a slow start. Chairman Harding presided as prayers and a formal report followed, with Senor Smoot presenting the credentials. The credentials report seating 987 delegates was adopted, and two DC delegates were excluded while Alaska and Hawaii gained two each. The permanent organization was approved, as was the rules committee report. Harding received an ovation, and Stimson and Speaker Sweet were named for further action.
