Heatless Mondays suspended south of Virginia

The Heatless Monday order is abandoned in states south of Vienna due to improved weather and traffic. Officials hope warmer weather and better railroad service will allow full relaxation nationwide after next Monday, with a half holiday Saturday and Lincoln's birthday on Tuesday. States affected include North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Breakup of local river ice expected tonight

Warm weather is breaking up ice on streams after several days of ice cover. The West Fork above Tucker Station is clear, with a one mile gorge downstream to the Monongahela. Ice remains on the Tygart Valley near Klingmont and on the Monongahela at Fairmont, but rising water reduces danger.

Fairmont Draft Calls 60 Men for Monday Examinations

Sixty Fairmont registrants are summoned by Local Draft Board No 1 for physical exams on Monday February 11 at 3 PM in the Y M C A auditorium. The aim is to test all 60 in one day, with those passing and holding the lowest order numbers to be drafted first.
