Northern West Virginia miners report a firm stance amid slow coal production and rising union activity. Meetings to bolster morale continue as operators debate long-term effects while 100 mines stay active across multiple divisions.
A mock trial at Norwood School granted Mrs. Abaga Slocum an absolute divorce with alimony after an eight to eleven o’clock session filled with humor and testimony. Judge H L Harris presided. City plaintiff witnesses testified to desertion and mistreatment. Defense countered but fell short as speeches attacked modern marriage.
In Charles Town April 29 the prosecution resumes its treason case against William Trizzard. Witnesses focus on Mother Jones and Keeney, detailing August 24 speeches urging miners to oppose state law, circulars critical of Wherry and constitutional rights, and meetings at the capitol grounds.
Farmington authorities arrested Mike Gerutta after 64 sticks of dynamite and a still were found at his home. He faced charges for threatening to blow up a highway or railroad bridge and a Prohibition Law violation, with bond set at 2000 for the dynamite threat and 1000 for the bootlegging charge. Magistrate Deviese noted cooperation from miners and local officers in the crackdown.

Fairmont lodge No 9 of the Masonic fraternity will conduct services at the grave for Brice Whoolery on Sunday afternoon. Members meet at 1 30 at Masonic Temple then proceed to the Jones residence 219 Walnut avenue for a 2 o'clock funeral. The lodge will travel by special trolley to Bellview Cemetery for grave services.

Mrs. Salmon of Cincinnati will address the gathering. sessions run 1 30 to 10 p m with morning and afternoon programs and an evening program featuring entertainment and a closing address by Mrs. Salmon.
Four state policemen were injured and scores arrested during a riot at Tower Hill mine No 1 near Uniontown amid a coal strike. About 600 demonstrators and 20 extra troopers clashed as arrests were made and prisoners jailed in Uniontown.
Morgantown April 29 Professor Spangler made public a letter to Mr Bryan demanding a retraction of claims that the biologist is guilty of cowardly evasion He cited University newspaper testimony that faculty students and townspeople who heard Bryans lecture would sign a statement that the proposition had been answered He accepted a $100 check and said he was glad to show Bryans untenable stance He answered six questions from Bryan concerning biological descent miracles the Bible and the resurrection with yea or no responses
