Barnes County Boys and Girls Club Exhibit at City Hall

An exhibit of boys and girls club work opens Friday October 14 at Valley City City Hall during Teachers Week. Entries include corn potatoes vegetables sewing canning bread and poultry with prize money from the Valley City Commercial Club. A program at 2 20 pm features singing talks and demonstrations by county figures and Grand Forks Interstate Fair participants.

Simpson Named Post Commander

The American Legion in City Hall held a meeting to elect a new post commander. C. R. Simpson, previously post finance officer, won the position after C. T. Hoverson resigned. Elmer W. was elected finance officer. Delegates T. S. Henry and Clifford Ferguson spoke on Minot convention business and war risk insurance. The post shows strong membership interest despite attendance.

Dodge Moonshine Raid Yields Caution From Officials

F L Watkins state enforcement officer and federal agents raided about 15 McLean county locations this week uncovering moonshine and related evidence. He warned that even small hidden contents can spoil the batch and harm drinkers noting a barrel of mash with hundreds of dend Mies and including other objects that will sour in use. State Supt Minnie J Nielsen was traveling in the south while deputies prepared for further actions.

Faculty Holds First Meeting At State Normal School

President C E Allei called the faculty to a first meeting as the new school year opened with student registration. Chapel exercises are reduced to Tue Thu and Sat, critics and class meetings fill Wednesdays and Fridays, and advisers are named for each class from first to fifth year.

Women Voters Told About Ballot Size and Ballots

The general ballot for fall elections will be about a newspaper page, listing Republican Democratic and independent tickets plus separate ballots for initiative measures county superintendent state superintendent and judicial issues. The League of Women Voters will hold Monday night voter instruction meetings at City Hall starting October 4 at eight o clock. Governor Lynn J. Frazier proclaims Saturday October 9 as Fire Prevention Day in North Dakota. President Wilson also designates the day to support national resource conservation by reducing fire waste and related deaths and injuries. Missionary Lecture Series Opens October at Guild Hall

A well attended ALL Saints Episcopal Guild meeting decided to launch a monthly missionary lecture series. The rector with 17 years in mission work will headline lectures, starting Sunday evening October 10 with "Mission Work in the Far North." No collections will be taken.
