Expert data sought for municipal heating plant plan
Minneapolis consulting engineer W. C. Buck is in the city gathering data on installing a steam heating system connected to the municipal power and light plant. The plan would use engine exhaust plus live steam to heat mains, costing not more than 25000 dollars, funded by plant earnings without tax increases. The scheme would run mains through alleys, with tunneling at some crossings, serving business districts, the courthouse, schools, library, and other public buildings, and save heat previously wasted. Buck will review city plant reports and present a detailed plan at the June 6 council meeting. business interest is strong and many favor replacing hot air with steam if adopted.
