Governor Preus cites Minnesota's diversified farming and cooperative marketing as the reason for steadier farmer prosperity. He notes Minnesota's higher coop participation in 1919, much larger butter production, and bigger dairy cow totals, arguing North Dakota lags in cooperative creameries and value returned to farmers. He contrasts state dairy practices and soil fertilization outcomes, urging wider adoption of dairy co operatives.
Minnesota dairy outlook and cooperative gains cited
Dairy Commissioner T J Osterhous notes producers receive 45 to 65 70 cents per pound for butter fat while only 8 of butterfat is turned into butter in 1918, Minnesota creameries pay 44.82 to 62.72 cents per pound, and farmers benefit from crop rotation diversified farming and cooperation such as farmers mutual fire insurance. He contrasts Minnesota with North Dakota and Wisconsin, highlighting strong cooperative enterprises and a high return to producers driven by dairy-focused farming.
