For Cheaper Sugar A Nation Defers Purchases
The National Preservers and Fruit Products association will stay out of the market until sugar prices fall. They say current prices are speculative and not due to shortage, risking factory closures and losses if they invest at present levels. Sugar speculators, soda flavor producers, fruit syrup makers, and candy manufacturers may also halt operations if prices do not drop. Some bankers would pressure speculators holding large sugar stocks. The Sioux City Tribune notes few sympathizers for the move.
