In a remarkable act of quick thinking, Mrs Moore lowered herself into a deep well to reach her small son. She hand over hand climbed back to the surface, bringing both mother and child up safely. The incident ends with a light-hearted note of the mother spanking the child, as is customary in the family.
Fragmentary text recounts a curious tale where a man facing trial for killing beefsteaks is acquitted after a judge’s steak meal.
