In Nowata Oklahoma on May 11 Judge Brown declared he would stop bootlegging and “wipe that Brown off the map of Oklahoma” during a court investigation into Len Hicks’s contempt bond. Hicks was kept behind bars on a $2,000 bond while Sheriff Gillespie testified bond was set by Assistant County Attorney Buchanan. Buchanan admitted no knowledge of the court order. Hanlon of Coffeyville arranged Hicks’s bond. A warrant was issued for Hanlon as Coffeyville attorney Gilbert Gander pledged to notify him. No jail time appears likely, but responsibility is placed on the parties involved.
