Persecution Motive Highlighted in Haskell Prosecution

Descriptions from Guthrie Oklahoma dated March 13 argue that prosecutions of Governor Haskell stem from personal revenge rather than conviction. A 1905 letter by Robert J Harrison, then clerk of the U S court at Muskogee, suggests federal officials backed sales of Creek Nation town lots and implies government interest waned after payment of appraisements. The document, partly redacted, fuels criticism of Roosevelt and Cannon and influences the looming trial dynamics.
