United States to Spend 48 Million on Irrigation Program

The Reclamation Service announced 48 million dollars will be spent over four years to reclaim semiarid and arid lands in the west. This averages about one million dollars per month and is described as a loan to be repaid to the treasury. Settlers have ten years to pay for land and water, and crop returns often cover the cost, opening wider markets for merchants, lenders, and financiers.
