Guthrie June 22. Oklahoma’s 1909 assessed valuation is expected to reach between 3400,000,000 and 900,000,000 according to KR C Cain of State Auditor Trapps office. Preliminary figures indicate a 25 percent rise for public service property except telephones and railroads. Railroads likely about 5 percent higher than last year. Local totals in 16 counties of 70 report 10 percent higher than 1908. Eastern Oklahoma counties show higher totals due to natural increases and removal of Indian land restrictions. Corporate public service property may approach 250,000,000.
In McAlester Oklahoma June 22 the federal court granted defendants in Muskogee conspiracy cases until August 16 to file preliminary motions Judge Campbell quashed eighteen indictments for timber depredations on an allotment land lacking named assailants or parties to the jury. Robert Dunlop of Newkirk and J Long of Wewoka headed a Oklahoma asylum inspection party en route to Chicago and Kankakee to study facilities for future construction and infant care guidance. They will travel about ten days.
A well attended Commercial club meeting moved to organize a county fair association. About 8 000 in stock at 25 4 share will form the financial basis, with a 26 price later reduced. no one may buy more than 100. All stock must sell by July 10 or the fair is dropped. Guthrie June 2 The criminal court of appeals affirmed the constitutionality of the eight hour law for labor on public works. Justice Doyle held the act is a state directed contract requirement, not police power, valid as the state prescribes terms for public labor. The decision boosts enforcement by State Labor Commissioner Dougherty amid further challenges to the code.

From Thursdays Daily the real opening of Electric Park in the east city occurred last night under the Commercial club with a reception for county normal teachers. Several hundred attended to dance, watch the boys swim, and stroll the park despite Silver Lake not being fully filled for adult bathing. Water sufficed for boating and was enjoyed by the younger guests.
News from Minit Oklahoma on June 24 notes a representative visit to investigate building a dam over the Neosho river at Miami to supply power for the city and nearby plants. Miner interest grows as new lead and ore mines open, with demand for a much larger generating capacity. A new strike of lead and zinc is reported from the North Miami camp near the Neosho river.
Joplin district mine owner and promoter A. Anderson attempted suicide here today by cutting his throat with a razor. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Despondent over financial troubles, he faced the tunnel project issues prior to the act.
A Kansas farmer allegedly cut his wife's head and then killed himself, while former circuit judge Henry M. Ryumey died in St. Joseph aged about 65. The wife had separated from her husband due to cruelty. Ryumey was a prominent Missouri Democrat.
