Golden Rule Wins Shutout Game
The Golden Rule baseball team defeated Milford-Bergers 10 to 0 in a decisive afternoon game. Milord-Bergers made a late effort but the Golden Rule pounded hits, stole bases, and ran the score away, while pitchers Hall and Belew fanned four each. The narrative includes score by innings, base on balls, and double plays, plus a lengthy schedule of devotional and conference events following the contest.

Tulsa County Lags in Legislature Candidacy News
Around the state notes no Tulsa county candidate for the legislature has filed with the secretary of state. National politics see Democratic congressmen failing to block district Indian agent funds as Congress seems poised to approve the appropriation. Tulsa County faces a socialist bid to gain control via a county convention to nominate an entire slate. Jim Sykes, Democratic congressional hopeful, likely enjoys local media support. Other items include Augusta Alyard seeking $500 for missing telegraph poles, Rev. Kircher named Beaver pastor, Enid farmer Ty Ties profitable sweet potatoes, and generic remarks on crop prospects and local business ventures.

The Lincoln Nomination and the 1860 Republican Convention
The Chicago convention of May 16, 1860 nominated Abraham Lincoln for president amid fierce factional battles. Seward’s backers fought for him, yet Curtin Lane and Horace Greeley rallied anti Seward forces to secure Lincoln, packing the Wigwam with supporters to overcome 173½ votes for Seward on the first ballot and reach the required majority on later ballots.
