Kansas City Stock Yards Cattle Hog and Sheep Markets Outlook

At Kansas City Stock Yards on January 22, cattle supply expected early week, but railroad car shortages dampen prices. Week ended with mixed results: cattle sold 15 to 20 cents below midweek, stockers and feeders firmer with mild weather, veal calves up 50 cents, butcher meat in stronger demand. Oil mill steer lots moved 5.15 to 6.30 dollars. Overall runs: 12 000 cattle, 2 000 Chicago cattle, steers up to 7.90, bulk 6.25 to 7.25, year-ago levels higher by 1.00 to 1.50. Hog market steady then down to 6.25, 20 cents below peak, run 18 000, top 6.20, bulk 5.80 to 6.15. Sheep and lambs panicked late week, 50 cents to 1 dollar below Wednesday, run 7 000, top lambs 4.55, wethers 4.75, ewes 4.10. Overall the market remains firm with an undertone of strength despite recent pullbacks.
