No Authority for Discrimination in Valuations
Oklahoma City, Dec. 2. Judge J. J. Carney ruled in Canadian county that the state Board of Equalization cannot discriminate between classes of personal property when raising valuations. it may only adjust valuations for the class as a whole. The decision, the first of its kind in the state, overruled a demurrer and favored more than 100 El Reno taxpayers who argued the board cannot order an indiscriminate raise by county clerks. An appeal was filed to take the case to the Supreme Court.

McNeal Challenges Oklahoma Valuation Increase
W McNeil of Guthrie filed suit in the Oklahoma Supreme Court contending the state board of equalization exceeded its authority by raising the state's total assessed valuation from 784 511 965 to 1 175 078 845. He argues the board replaced county reports with new valuations and usurped city and township assessors duties. The petition seeks a reconvened board to adjust and equalize valuations by county.
