In Carthage Missouri 5000 spectators watched Phil Arnett ridden by Pred Tucker crash during the final race. Tucker, 19 of Nashville, sustained fatal head injuries and was taken to Carthage hospital. Jockey Wagner remained uninjured as Arnett rolled riderless. Band played No 12 as the tragedy occurred.
