Vermont Press Association Meeting Planned for March

The annual Vermont Press Association meeting will be held March 7 and 8 in Montpelier if hotel rooms are available. About 50 members are expected. Guest Congressman Frank L. Growne was moved to March from January, and writer William Dudley Pelley will speak on his Siberian experiences to newspaper men.

Death of Roy F Scott in Bangor Me

Roy F Scott died in Bangor Maine on Saturday February 1 after returning from service with the 101st Artillery in France. He was 28, son of Frank A and the late Mrs Scott, survived by two sisters Mia and Mixx and a brother Lindel. Funeral held Monday at home, private. Rev Dori F Scott officiated. Buried Mt Pleasant Cemetery. A quip about a wife and a match closes the obituary.

Caledonia County Meeting Draws Hundreds in 1920 Report

Six hundred seventy members of the Caledonia County Farm Bureau gathered in Lyndon hall for the annual meeting to hear county agent Leland Wood’s report and an address by Glen Seavey. A luncheon followed, and officers were elected for the next year. A Woman’s Department meeting in Pythian Hall discussed recent activities and listed officers and advisory council members across the county. A hospital tale from Lieut Tierney’s visit highlighted camaraderie among wounded soldiers and a morale-boosting anecdote about a machine gun crew and a sniper engagement.

Special to The Caledonian Montpelier February 1 Governor Clement appoints Melvin G Mevse of Hardwick as municipal judge to replace Clinton G White who has held the post two years Other appointments include Major Anyon H Grout of Newport to lieutenant colonel Captain Henry W Ellis of St Johnsbury promoted to major in the Vermont volunteer militia Lt Col Preston H Ladley of Bellows Falls promoted to colonel and placed in command of the first regiment of the militia Captain Henry W Ellis a longtime St Johnsbury resident has held numerous ranks in local units since 1891 and has led Co G Vermont volunteer militia since 1918 His friends in St Johnsbury greet the promotion with pride.

Death of Gordon A. Smith in South Ryegate

Gordon A. Smith a well known granite manufacturer in South Ryegate died Saturday afternoon from pneumonia following influenza. His wife and child are ill with influenza. He is survived by Mrs. Smith and one child, his mother Mrs. M. J. McDonald, and several brothers, one in business with him, another in France, and two in Granville. The private funeral with Masonic service was held at his home Tuesday at 10.30 a.m.

Spaulding Returns From Six Week Visit With Daughter

H G Spaulding day clerk at the St Johnsbury House is back after a six weeks visit with his daughter Mrs Lee Bates in North Hartland. The annual roll call of the Church of the Messiah will be held February 5 with a dinner at 80 o'clock followed by a business meeting.
