The Leader declares the missing word contest closed after ten weekly runs. Miss Margaret Werner wins first prize for her entry at 312 Second Street, with Miss Helen Koehler a close second arriving at the same time.
G M Gahlman of Watertown, president of the State Retail Liquor Dealers association, says most members favor closing hours but oppose the governor's veto of a bill to permit opening after polls. The group, meeting in Kaukauna, sent a protest telegram and cited uneven enforcement of the closing law, noting Madison Janesville and Watertown enforcement. Gahlman also backs Police Chief Jaessen’s plan to end carburets and back-room palm gardens in Milwaukee.
Elaine Schimmel, four, narrowly escaped injury when a northbound car swerved across Church Street in front of her home at 415 North Church. The driver’s identity is unknown and residents urge police to curb speed racing on Church Street.
Rev. Alfred Sauer marked ten years as pastor of the German Lutheran Church in Winona Minnesota last Sunday. Northwestern College graduates attended and participated. Sauer, a Northwestern and Watertown alumnus, is highly regarded by his parishioners and admired for his successful ministry.

A party at the Emil Buelcher home near Richwood welcomed about forty friends on Thursday evening. In route 7, Fred Borchart hosts celebrated his sixty fourth birthday on Sunday July 25 with a sumptuous dinner and enjoyable time. Miss Elsie H. Saniter entertained friends at her country home in route 8 last Sunday, with various social activities and a midnight luncheon.
A wedding was held Saturday evening at 711 North Fourth Street as Delia Radtke sister of Mrs. Brendel and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Radtke of Farming ton wed Henry Majestic of Milwaukee. The ceremony occurred at 7 30 and a wedding dinner followed. The couple plans to reside in Milwaukee after September 1 at 756 Forty second Street.
The Watertown board of review met in the council chamber at city hall since Monday July 26 hearing many complaints of high assessments. Some reductions were granted and the board may stay in session for another week. Local assessments are said to be lower than in any county village, yet taxpayers doubt the state board will order full cash value on all properties.
The thirteenth annual re union of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Sons of Veterans, and the W R C for Jefferson county will be held at Jefferson on August 19 1915. A fine program has been prepared to please attendees and many from Watertown are expected to join old comrades and recall days long past.
The Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan opens its term on Wednesday September 8. Deaf boys and girls across Wisconsin may attend at no cost and receive a broad program from academics to domestic science and manual training. E W Walker, superintendent, invites inquiries.

Governor Emanuel L. Philipp urges Wisconsin breeders and exhibitors to make the 1915 State Fair in Milwaukee September 13 to 17 a strong showcase for Wisconsin resources. The event features expanded Dairy and Horticulture displays, a new Boys and Girls Agricultural Clubs department, an Automobile Show, road building exhibits, and special daily themes.

Schulz and Beebe pitched well before the Goslings misplayed a ball in the eleventh, allowing Burke to score on Meyers steal and Brady miscue Talbot. Herman Bethke, 76, long time Watertown resident, died Sunday at Lutheran Home for Feebleminded after choosing the home to be near his daughter Hannah. Survived by son Robert and daughters Mrs Albert Warnke and Miss Lena Bethke of Fort Atkinson, and daughter Hannah at the home. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran home and Oak Hill Cemetery.

A 1911 graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of the University of Tennessee, he has hospital experience in Hoboken and New York City and one year in Hanover, Germany. He comes highly recommended and aims to serve Dodge county residents.

Five Watertown players topped the summer Wisconsin Skat league tournament at Juneau last Sunday. Joseph E. Brasky took second with 790 points and 17 wins, H. F. Lange had 686 points and 13 wins, Albert A. Frattinger 353 points and 18 wins, Harry B. O'Brien 624 points and 18 wins, and John Maertzke led with 140 high play points and 567 points total.
The Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth adds a rare two horned African rhinoceros noted for its tough hide and dramatic tusk-like horn arrangement. Keepers warn of its ferocity yet the animal also shows playful behavior rolling and balancing a large ball. Visitors in Watertown on August 19 will see this mammoth animal and hundreds of other beasts.

Watertown boosters attended the Sun Prairie fair last Thursday. Some traveled by machine while many used Milwaukee road trains, leaving west at 8 32 a m and returning at 8 10 p m.
Examinations for the fall series 1915 in Dodge County Wisconsin will be held in Iron Ridge on August 16 and 17 Reeseville on August 23 and 24 and Juneau on August 19 20 and 21.
