The Shenandoah Shores house of James and Catherine Kilby, parents of five, is preserved as a museum highlighting the Kilbys role in the civil rights movement in Warren County. A photo from the new museum accompanies the feature.
In Front Royal Virginia the James Wilson Kilby African American Museum and Education Center opens in the Kilby family home on Shenandoah Shores Road. The center honors James and Catherine Kilby with documents photos and artifacts curated by Patricia Kilby-Robb and Nathaniel Robb. Kilby born in 1917 in Madison County helped desegregate Warren County High School in the 1950s.
A two day celebration in Front Royal Virginia highlights Indigenous American art history and culture. From 10 am to 5 pm at Stone Branch Arts Center attendees explore exhibits dance films crafts workshops and demonstrations. A Sunday dinner is separately ticketed.
Gentiva Hospice volunteers honor veterans with a pin ceremony, underscoring the We Honor Veterans program begun in 2010 by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Sandy Burner-Cave, Fort Valley volunteer coordinator, notes the special bond among veterans and their need for veteran-centric end-of-life care addressing PTSD and other lasting effects.
