Supervisors reject Rivermont Fortsmouth Fire Station merger
Warren County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to reject consolidating the Rivermont and Fort Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Departments. A Springsted study cited severe Rivermont structural and staffing issues and Fort Portsmouth’s insufficient personnel. A proposed county airport-road facility at about 3 million dollars would serve over 38 square miles and 2,300 residents, but faced debt concerns.

In Front Royal the May 14 school board meeting saw superintendent Pam McInnis withdraw the Skyline Middle School name proposal after apologizing for proposing the plan without full review. The plan had aimed to rebalance attendance zones so students bound for Skyline High School would attend the new middle school at Happy Creek Road and Leach Run Parkway, with future Warren County High School students affected similarly.
