Rupert Schoolhouse Preservation Ties With SVBF and Virginia
The Rupert Schoolhouse, built in 1869 by educator Jessie Rupert for Black and poor white students, will be preserved by the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation in partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Department of Historic Resources. The project aims to create a visitor center and museum linked to the Long Road to Freedom Trail, highlighting Civil War era civilian life and African American history in the Shenandoah Valley.
