Cardinals edge Front Royal in two as late rally falls short
In the first game Front Royal cut the margin to one after loading the bases on walks to Frost and Poppell and a Hite single. A 4-6-3 double play by Frost ended the threat. Bristow started the bottom of the sixth with a walk but was thrown out stealing. The nightcap saw Front Royal take a 2-1 lead before Covington answered with three unearned runs in the third to go ahead 4-2. The Cards tied it in the fifth with Hite scoring on an infield error and Hay driving in a run, then Frost stole and scored the winning run in the seventh on Riley Frost’s sacrifice fly. Schultz earned the win for Covington, while Cossa and Adams pitched well for Covington and Front Royal respectively. Hay led the Cards with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. The Cardinals face key North Division games at Winchester and Strasburg, with Front Royal hosting Woodstock and Strasburg.
