Fire engulfs VFW Post 1860 building in July 2015 blaze

A trash can fire at VFW Post 1860 headquarters at 1847 N. Royal Ave. spread to engulf the building before 1:30 p.m. on Saturday July 11 2015. Firefighters from 10 companies battled the flames and some crews remained through the next day.

Longtime Rotarian Honored With New Dave Moreman Award

In Harrisonburg the Rotary District honored Front Royal Rotarian Dave Moreman by naming the first Dave Moreman Encouraging Youth Award after him. District Governor Chris Runion noted the surprise secrecy and Moreman’s decades of service, including international projects to eradicate polio.

Five residents vie for three four year terms on the Front Royal town council in the November election. With mayor Hollis Tharpe unopposed, two incumbent councilmen also seek reelection as the June 14 ballot deadline passes.

Bike Virginia Tour to Roll Through Front Royal

Cyclists from Bike Virginia, a non profit group, will share town roads on Saturday as they travel from Woodstock to Harrisonburg June 24 to 29. They reach Front Royal Saturday, touring Happy Creek Road and Commerce Avenue, ending at Laura Virginia Hale Place near the gazebo.

Naked man attempts to flag down traffic on I 66

Deputies in Warren County arrest 23 year old Matthew Palmer Fitzgerald after a Tuesday morning incident. He allegedly assaulted his mother and a law enforcement officer and attempted to flag down Interstate 66 traffic while naked. Fitzgerald appeared intoxicated at mile marker 13 around 2 40 a.m. and was charged with public intoxication.

Front Royal seeks gunman after Pine Street shooting

Front Royal police hunt a gunman after a man was shot at least three times on Pine Street Saturday night. Earl Christopher Magwood, 40, was treated at Warren Memorial Hospital then moved to Winchester Medical Center in stable condition. Police cautioned on details as the investigation continues.
