Load-in begins Saturday with midway opening Monday for the 58th Warren County Fair. Organizers prepare for livestock shows, pageants, concerts, and other events all week. The fair runs Tuesday through Friday with a public auction concluding the week.
The Sentinel reports a second arrest in a string of church burglaries linked to Christopher Cory A. Mercado Sensabaugh, 19, who was taken into custody July 10 and held on a warrant from Darien Georgia. The case involves a Grove burglary at Skyline Farm Road near a Baptist church and spans Warren County to the coastal area.
The fair runs from Aug 1 to Aug 8 with daily events. Aug 1 features home economics exhibits 11 am to 3 pm, Aug 2 pageants at 9 am and fair opening, Aug 3 midway at 6 pm and truck pulls, Aug 4 King BMX Stunt Show at 7:30 pm, Aug 5 demolition derby at 7 pm, Aug 6 The Hubcaps at 7 and 8:30 pm, Aug 7 Little Texas at 8:30 pm, and Aug 8 T Graham Brown at 8 pm on the main stage.
Rivermont and Fortsmouth volunteers may consolidate into a single county owned fire house on Airport Road within two years. A Rivermont inspection found the second floor unsafe pending further analysis. The plan includes substantial costs and a recruiter for more volunteer firefighters.
In Front Royal a divided town council held a closed session to discuss Warren County’s proposal to share meals and lodging tax revenue from the U S 340 522 corridor and adjourned without action. The dispute centers on 30 percent meals tax and 5 percent lodging tax shares and PILOT payment moratoriums.
Warren County supervisors tabled a decision on a conditional use permit for a short term tourist rental at the historic Mint House on Strasburg Road after more than an hour of public comments. Neighbors raised noise lights and traffic worries about events and weddings, while some non residents urged support for the event center.
