County denies rezoning request for Dollar General
Warren County Supervisors voted 5-0 against a rezone to allow a 9,100 square foot Dollar General on Route 55 west at 1453 Strasburg Road. The plan by JMB Investment for landowner Vicki Jimenez would have converted 4.14 acres from Agricultural to Commercial with a retail building and 46 parking spaces.

Winchester resident slain in Ashburn house shooting
Corey Mattison, a former Winchester resident and Front Royal native, is remembered as a loving father. Minh D. Nguyen, 38, of Ashburn, is charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm during a felony after an incident at Nguyen's Ashburn town house on the night of Jan 15. Two children were present. ex wife and a third child returned home during the event.

Funk seeks Warren County Clerk post in Republican bid
Front Royal councilman Daryl Funk announced his candidacy from the Warren County Courthouse law library on January 15. He aims to replace Circuit Court Clerk Jennifer Sims, who retires this year, with Sims endorsing his campaign for the November 3 election.
