Warren County Drug Court Aims to Treat Offenders

A committee of lawmakers, law enforcement and addiction professionals seeks to start a drug court in Warren County to provide offenders treatment instead of prison. The Front Royal Warren County Drug Prevention group, co chaired by Delores Oates and Gary Gillispie, includes sheriff and police officials, court staff, social services and Northwestern Community Services. Non violent offenders may be screened for eligibility in Warren County Circuit Court, with local rules guiding participation. If approved, defendants enter treatment under tight supervision rather than incarceration, though murder rape and some burglary cases are ineligible.

Warner touts infrastructure bill at Inland Port stop

Senator Mark Warner visited the Virginia Inland Port to tout the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. He said the $1.2 trillion plan would fund road and bridge repairs, expand broadband, and create jobs, with $542 billion planned over eight years and about $7 billion to Virginia’s Department of Transportation for projects including I-81 and other statewide improvements.

Full vaccination still best option for surviving Virus

The FDA granted full approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which remains under emergency use authorization for ages 12 to 15 and for immunocompromised individuals’ third doses. Health officials urge both vaccinated and unvaccinated not to assume immunity, as the Delta variant spreads. Valley Health reports 88 COVID patients across six hospitals, with 19 vaccinated and 69 unvaccinated. Recovery does not guarantee lasting protection.

Town planners back new rules for apartments

Front Royal Planning Commission endorsed changes to zoning rules for downtown apartments. The 5-0 vote recommends Town Council approve amendments to C-2 District use regulations, affecting administrative approvals and special-use permits for residential units including parking rules.
