Dominique A. Callins of Front Royal was appointed Tuesday to the Virginia Court of Appeals, part of an eight-candidate slate chosen by the General Assembly. The appointment aims to increase diversity with four women and four African-Americans among nominees. Callins did not respond to requests for comment.
A Warren County grand jury returned more than twenty indictments last month. Alfred Emanuel Smith III, 27, of Purcellville, was charged with reckless firearm handling, possession of a gun with a cataloged substance, methamphetamine possession, and property destruction under 1000 dollars. Deputies linked the Sept. 5 incident to a reported break in at Tara Lane involving gunfire and a claim that others were trying to kill him. The responding units found a broken window, a door shot at, and bullets in Smiths truck windshield. He said others were after him during questioning.
In a 69 to 30 result the Senate backed a $1 trillion infrastructure package with Democratic and Republican support. The measure funds roads broadband water systems and public works, sending the bill toward the House as Biden hails a rare cross party win ahead of a broader $3.5 trillion agenda.
State vaccine coordinator Dr. Danny Avula said children ages 5 to 11 could begin receiving the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as September and a potential third dose for those 12 and older may be recommended later this year. He noted no approvals yet for young kids or a booster but expects more guidance soon. An annual shot similar to the flu is anticipated to curb illness.
