Drowned girls lauded for brave rescue at Lake Pepin

In Lake Pepin Minnesota Edith Bend and Nettie McKey both of St Paul lost their lives while saving Mamie Horn as the shore water dropped sharply from shallow to deep. Horn was saved by the two who could not swim and perished in the effort.

New Anglo American Extradition Treaty Outlined

The New York Tribune publishes the full text of the London signed convention by Minister Phelps and Earl Roseberry expanding article 10 of the 1842 treaty. It lists new crimes such as manslaughter burglary embezzlement or larceny over fifty dollars and malicious property injuries. It applies to those convicted or charged and excludes retroactivity political offenses and trials for other offenses until surrendering state access. The convention goes to the senate committee on foreign affairs.
