The council, minus Alderman Ebr, approves second readings on a hay market ordinance banning street sales and a garbage dumping rule east of the Peter Ehr farm. Harrison township seeks $150 for road improvements while the city plans to upgrade the east city road section.
In Devils Lake area notes a man named Joe Basnett is jailed after his beer is confiscated during a duck hunt and he is charged with pigging. The report also describes traveling grocery agents cheating farmers, supplying groceries at inflated prices while promising big savings.
Dr. Powell, Methodist pastor, will start a men series next Sunday evening. He will address business men, clerks, mechanics, and commercial travelers on four consecutive Mondays in Minot, beginning September 22 at 8 p.m.
Wheat averages report 12 bushels per acre for Farr and Ea Bettin, with green grain and poor grades. Threshing continues this week and fall plowing begins. Bosco the snake eater caused a scene at Devils Lake, later jailed after throwing a snake at an old man. She claimed to have relatives in the east and bought a ticket, but Williston State later said she was not needy and has run similar schemes. She lived with Heinbaugh who denies marriage. Sheriff Lee and Deputy Kelley raided a blind pig with Lee entering the front and Kelley the rear. An occupant warned by singing, and the proprietor surrendered unconditionally. The Velva Journal notes a marriage of its senior editor to Mrs. E. J. Horine and plans to return to Velva.
A. Skeoch proprietor of the Grill Cafe witnessed a bold hold up near the Bovey Shute lumber yard Sunday at 1 30 am. He saw one man with a revolver holding another as the victim cried for help. Skeoch questioned the scene and later facts supported his suspicion. Frank Gordon was jailed the next morning and found with 400 dollars on him. Skeoch identified him as one of the attackers, but Gordon was released at a Tuesday morning hearing.
B S Chesley a Singer Sewing Co representative married Anna Arens at the bride’s parents home in Goodrich North Dakota on Sept 10. They are honeymooning at Big Stone Lake Minnesota with a pinked future back home.
Fragmentary local item notes the funeral of Dr Klemmer from his home in Jaribault Minnesota on the 17th at 2 o'clock. Mentions that the doctor died in Germany days earlier and references a partisan dispute at Minot and other scattered remarks in a newspaper snippet.
A Great Northern caboose left the track near Minot early today, rolling onto the prairie. Conductor C C Reynolds and brakemen John Westwell and Dan Cunningham were badly hurt, transported to Minot hospital for treatment. Officials suspect a defective track piece and high speeds contributed. the engine remained on track.
Clergy faced letters from three lawyers two town officials and an editor threatening slander suits if names appeared in discourse. Federal gait event to be held in city in October. Rolla Morrison, elderly veteran, moved to Amherst Wis. nephew escorted him there after twenty one years near this city. Friends regret his departure. Dr J D Taylor returns from Wm Black’s ranch near Chilcot after a three day grouse hunt. He praises hospitality and the fine native stone home with modern comforts and a large water tank. He recalls generous butter making and says he expects another visit around November 10.
Dr. Irving David Wiltrout arrives from Wisconsin and decides to remain in town. A physician and surgeon, he ran Holmes Sanitorium in Hudson and authored nursing texts. He organized the American Correspondence School of Nursing and has long experience in nervous and chronic diseases. He speaks German and Scandinavian, will open an office after October 1st above Muus Bros., with earlier connections in room 4, Optical building. The notice notes church advertising space and a forthcoming dissolution sale at The Hub.
Sam Bader, long in charge of the Branch shoe and clothing department, opens a clothing and furnishing goods store for ladies and gentlemen at Glenburn this week. He bought new stock from the east and promises Gillenburn a fine shop with good goods at very cheap prices.
Arthur and J F Charlebois arrived from Alexander Ontario to join their father heavily involved in local real estate. Arthur was the first person born on the south hill in the city and is nineteen years old. The brothers left thirteen years ago with their parents and had not returned until now.
Last night or early this morning robbers entered the Great Northern station at Gardner North Dakota and cracked the safe taking all that was inside. Only a small amount of cash remained and a scarce $2.50 gold piece was among the loot, which may help identify the culprits. Police and authorities have been notified. Some of A J Anderson's wheat at Balfour averaged over 20 bushels graded No 1 and sold near a dollar a bushel.
