Prominent Bowbells Attorney Fred Andrews Dies
Atty. Fred Andrews, 38, Bowbells, North Dakota, died at his home Monday evening from acute Bright's disease after a few hours illness. He was the first Burke County State's Attorney and left a widow and daughter. Funeral services were held at Bowbells in Masonic rites with many officials and friends in attendance. Andrews had lived near Norwich, practiced law, and previously taught school and farmed. His death prompted a community observance with a half holiday and widespread mourning.

Flax Hauler From Reservation Posts Big Harvest
C. H. Withers harvested 760 acres of flax this year using a Twin City engine. He yielded 11 bushels per acre at 1.95 per bushel, planning a sizable profit. He hauled 800 bushels 22 miles to Plaza in one trip, with six grain tanks and another wagon, taking 12 hours out and 10 hours back. A photo will appear in the Independent. Carl Peterson cropped 800 Indian land acres to flax and is threshing, yielding 12 to 14 bushels per acre and likely substantial earnings this year.

Surrey farmer Loren Huston sold his Surrey farm for forty dollars an acre to Geo Nurnberg of Williams county to settle near a town with good schools. Huston, who bought the place seven years ago for twenty thousand, expects to clear twelve hundred from this year’s crop and plans to move back to Forest Ohio to invest in a small farm.
