Hundreds of Hunters Enjoy Early Season Outing in North Dakota Fields

Hundreds of hunters from the city went out before dawn for ducks and prairie birds in the Minot Des Lacs area. Reports say hunting is excellent with many taking their limits of fifteen ducks or five grouse as the season runs from September 16 to December 2. A party including H. M. Wilson and others camped near the Ginther ranch south of Des Lacs as part of numerous hunting parties arranged for the fall.

Thieves Break Into Basement of First Farmers Bank

Thieves smashed a basement window at the First Farmers Bank and unlocked the door Yale lock. President Anthony Walton inventories losses including property tied to Gordon Treatment Co and stolen electric light fixtures. An office room once used by Grant S. Youmans was entered and drawers opened while tires and tubes appeared untouched.

Motion for Layer Trial to Be Asked in North Carolina

A motion will be filed within 10 days in Washburn district court seeking a trial for Henry Layer, who confessed to slaying eight people at Turtle Lake last April. Attorneys E. P. Kelly and Morris believe Layer’s confession is false and that others were involved. Layer is reportedly in good health, working in prison laundry, and seen with a guard in Bismarck. Separately, Mr and Mrs B E Stewart returned from Minnesota with Ida Ralston. hunting licenses issued up to Tuesday indicate high activity, with 2300 licenses issued last year and more expected.

Lightning strikes Surrey Farmers Elevator in North Dakota

The Farmers Co operative Elevator at Surrey caught fire early the day after and damage is estimated at 500 dollars. Firemen extinguished the blaze. a 14 foot steel rod and cupola suffered damage while the blaze started in several spots and threatened thousands of bushels of grain. Close by, duck hunting reports indicate abundant game around Glenburn and local ponds.

Contract Let For State Road In Mountrail County

The Mountrail county commissioners let the contract for the state highway from Tagus to Palermo, a sixteen mile stretch, to Stoney Bros. of St. Cloud Minnesota. Work will start as soon as possible. The route carries thousands of tourists to the coast each year.

An elevator in Glenburn was struck by lightning early Friday. The fire that began in the cupola was spotted by young Vivian Carlson who raised the alarm, allowing the structure to be saved.
