A cold wet snowstorm hit the northwest region last Saturday with rain Friday night and snow by morning. Trains were stalled, telegraph poles snapped, and residents faced drifting snow from Stanley to Rugby, with many forced to travel on foot or by horse to reach homes.
A severe early snowstorm devastates cattle herds and grain stores across the county. Sixteen cattle stray and six frozen to death near town, with hundreds more cattle lost or damaged in stockyards and ranges. Trees topple, telegraph and electric lines fail, trains delayed, and farmers brace for substantial grain losses though some hope for next season's crop. Local officials report on treasurer miss Williams and a horse thief transport to Bismarck amid the disruption.
TL. H. McDonald of Gran reports eight bow cars arrived in Granville on Friday. They will feed workmen laying steel for the new branch toward Moball. The road is expected to be finished this fall. Granville is lively. work has begun on a new school house and Horton started a new flat house.
Fish the lumberman was struck down on the street Wednesday night and carried home by bystanders. He rallied the next day and though seriously ill he did not suffer lasting inconvenience from the stroke.
N W Lewis who lives on a homestead north of town celebrated his 72nd birthday Friday by walking ten miles into the city. He says his health and that of his wife, aged 68, are much better than when they first moved to North Dakota.
