Ward county men left for Camp Grant to begin overseas training
Thirty one Ward county young men most from farm homes departed for Camp Grant Ill to begin test training for overseas service. Relatives and friends gathered to wish them God speed as Rev C L Clifford gave a patriotic address. A Musicians Band and Drum Corps led the parade to the station with many names listed as entrained for service.

Train No 1 Ditch Near Minot Wreck Injures Thirteen
Great Northern west bound No 1 derailed about two miles east of Minot after 2 am. Thirteen passengers were injured, two seriously. Engine and cars left track after rail failure or break. Firemen, engineers, and soldiers helped rescue. two women remained seriously hurt but improving.

An infernal machine exploded in Chicago’s federal building killing four and injuring 75, with raids on I W W headquarters and nine arrests including Peter Dailey of St. Louis. Haywood and his lawyer were on the eighth floor seeking a writ of error when the blast hit.

A Liberty Loan parade is planned for Saturday morning September 28 at 10 oclock in the city. A community singing will follow on Sunday afternoon, September 20 at the Waverly corner led by Mrs Gringer with A T Blom in charge. The statue of Liberty will be unveiled at Main and Third streets near the Elks Home a 19 foot statue with a 12 foot square base and lighting for the torch.

A group from Minot traveled eleven miles southeast to a farm to work all afternoon without pay. The farmer offered no thanks or food, and the men walked home exhausted. The Independent notes this is the first farmer the paper has encountered who does not appreciate help.
