McGahan Faces Assault Charge At Minot Land Office

McGahan register of the Minot land office was arrested Wednesday afternoon on charges of attempted assault and threatening to kill. He was remanded on bond of 500 pending a Thursday hearing, with Thomas E. Lex, receiver, securing the warrant on claims he threatened to shoot Lex.Witnesses describe a confrontation in which McGahan followed a man in a store and then in the land office threatened violence. the man defended himself, resulting in McGahan being restrained until police arrived. An immediate move to remove the registrar from office was reported.

Auto crash harms Dr Storay and family near ditch

Friday night a car driven by Clifford Welch carried Dr Thos Storay and his family when it hit a newly dug ditch and ground across three to four feet. A six year old boy suffered eye injury while others endured pain. no blame attachable to Welch per officials. Hunters from Sherwood pursued grouse west of Sherwood.

Died on Train Near Williston N D

Andrew Christian Vonder Plan died on a train between Snowden and Buford this morning. A passenger noticed he looked peculiar and the conductor found him dead. He had been living with his mother twenty miles north of Culvertom and had started work with Bob Fitzsimmons bridge crew at Culberts on Monday morning.

Tragic Suicide Near Stanley Reported

A. M. Moore living twelve miles southwest of Stanley died by self harm while delirious from typhoid fever. He cut his stomach and intestines with a large knife near his bed. Moore had been ill for some time and was known in Minot for work at a local hotel. He leaves a wife.

Operation Killed Dr

An old Minot letter reveals the death of Dr C A Klemer in Berlin Germany on August 22 after an intestinal growth found during an operation on August 21. Despite a difficult valiant effort by Berlin surgeons the doctor died the next morning.

Successful year in music and arrest report

The Minor Academy of Music opens a fall term in the J. M. Wilson block with Prof Dunaveski and his wife pleased by a year of growth. Forty five pupils studied and a top scholarship will be awarded at year end. Deputy George arrested Tom Layne in Kenmare for running a house of ill fame and handed him to the state attorney. Layne resisted, beat the officer, and fled. his whereabouts are unknown.

Stranger Kills Self Near Berthold in Suspected Poisoning

Peter Amundson, a LaCrosse Wisconsin stranger, died by self inflicted poisoning after visiting a Berthold restaurant. Coroner Dr Ekrem and Sheriff Lee say he likely used morphine, not drowning, with a note urging him to go west and behave for the sake of his children Hazel and Walter. The body was sent to Minot awaiting word from LaCrosse. an I O O F receipt was found.

Night and Day Grain Cutting Around Columbus County

Farmers across Columbus County work around the clock harvesting grain. With grain ripe and shelling risk high, crews operate binders by lantern light, changing horses and workers to save as much as possible. Some barley fields have already lost about a third to wind-shelled losses.

The Branch buyer returns from the east after two weeks of purchasing fall and winter stock. He says he secured higher quality goods than ever before and plans to unveil a superior line to match eastern stores. The store gears up for a major fall advertising campaign starting this week.

Ed Kirkelie Dies of Typhoid Fever in City

Ed Kirkelie died this morning at his home from typhoid fever. He leaves a wife, and his parents live near Foxholm. He had resided in the county about twelve years. The Dunkers have opened Sunday school in the I O O F hall, with classes each Sunday at 10 am and 8 pm, no collections. Mr and Mrs Harry Edwards, southwest of the city, are the parents of a baby girl.

Way Freight Crashes Into Through Freight Near Gassman

A rear end collision on the Great Northern line near Gassman west of town left nine cars wrecked and both trains damaged. Brakemen rode the engines and leaped free as the way freight hit a stationary through freight on a sharp curve. no serious injuries, but savagely damaged track and engines. Passengers in the way freight caboose narrowly escaped fatal harm, and the incident halted traffic until 7:45 AM.
